Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) Pellet
Time : 2019-02-12 Writer : ddjx
In the palm oil milling process, palm kernel nuts are separated from the fibrous palm pulp. The nuts are then cracked to extract the kernels for subsequent oil extraction while the shells are separated from the main processing line. Parts of the shells are used as fuel for the boiler and the balance is processed into renewable palm biofuel. Our Palm Kernel Shell drying system can dry the Moisture from 40% to 10%.
Similar to other nut shell, PKS has calorific value close to that of wood pellets, lignite (brown coal) and peat, with Lower Heating Value of 3’500 kCal/kg and Higher Heating Value of 4’000 kCal/kg.
Moisture content is kept below 20% to enable dependable boiler and burner emission and combustion performance.
In addition to improving carbon footprint, some of our clients are truly enjoying the benefit of fuel cost reduction. The cost analysis concludes that there is a 47% cost reduction switching over from diesel to biomass. Our client is incurring $ 6.56 diesel fuel cost per ton as compared to $ 3.51 biomass fuel cost per ton. To the client, the implication of 47% cost reduction is not merely a cost saving but a strategic leapfrog to sustain its business's cost competitiveness against other players in the market.
